Matsuhashi took the Top League storm in his 2016-17 debut season, scoring eight tries in his first nine appearances for Ricoh Black Rams, earning a place in Jamie Joseph's Japan squad for the November tests. 

He was selected in the Top League Best XV for the 2016-17, in addition to being chosen as Best Rookie for 2016-17.
