Born in Auckland to Tongan parents, Lomano Lemeki moved to Brisbane with his family at the age of 19 and signed for the Queensland Reds academy while working part-time as a tiler.

At the age of 20, Lemeki received an offer from then amateur team Canon Eagles via a connection from his Japanese wife. He spent one season at Canon before joining Mazda Blue Zoomers for a single campaign.

Lemeki signed with Honda for the 2013 campaign but had limited playing time and so turned his attention to the Sevens circuit, where he represented Japan at the 2013 Rugby World Cup Sevens. He was chosen in the Team of the Tournament for the Tokyo Sevens in 2014.

He claimed Japanese citizenship in 2014 after marrying in Japan. Lemeki impressed at the 2016 Olympics as Japan finished fourth in the Rugby Sevens.
