Founded in September 1966 and originally named Japan-America Coca-Cola Rugby Club, rugby was officially recognised as a company sport by Coca-Cola in 1970.
They joined the West Japan League during the 1970s, changing their name to Kitakyushu Coca-Cola Holding Rugby Club in 1973. before changing again to Coca-Cola West Japan in 1999.
The team were promoted to the Top League for the first time in 2005, becoming the second team from Kyushu after Sanix to take part in the top tier. They changed their name (again) to Coca-Cola West Red Sparks in 2007 and achieved a club best 7th place in 2009.
Coca-Cola dropped out of the Top League in 2012 after finishing rock bottom of the division, but bounced back immediately the following season. In 2014, they dropped the 'West' from the name and are now known as Coca-Cola Red Sparks.
